Join local textile artist Margaret Crook for a relaxed and enjoyable day exploring the art of felt-making using beautifully hand-dyed sheep's fleece.
You'll learn about the different types of fleece, choose a landscape or picture you'd like to create, and be guided through each stage of the process. No previous artistic experience is needed – your picture will naturally develop throughout the day in a supportive and informal environment.
The morning will focus on creating the background of your artwork using traditional wet felting techniques. After a break for lunch, you'll add texture and detail using needle felting, bringing your unique piece to life.
By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with your own handmade felt picture to take home.
What to expect:
Learn both wet felting and needle felting techniques.
Work with locally sourced, hand-processed and hand-dyed sheep's fleece.
Create your own unique landscape or picture.
Small, relaxed and supportive workshop.
All materials, refreshments and lunch included.
About the Facilitators
Margaret Crook
Coming from a background in catering, from celebration cake decorating in my twenties to plant-based catering later in life, it wasn’t until I moved to Snowdonia in 2022 that I had the opportunity to fully indulge my love of colour and textiles.
I was introduced to my local spinning and weaving guild and went along purely so I could chat to people and learn a little. I was so enthralled by it all that I came home with a spinning wheel! Hence the start of an obsession with ‘all things sheep’.
My main interests are in spinning Art Yarn, which I either knit or use in tapestry landscape weaving. I love the whole process of washing raw fleece, carding and dyeing. It’s a great feeling to be able to say you’ve produced an item from raw fleece to a usable or wearable end product.
Who is this for?
This workshop is suitable for beginners and anyone with an interest in textiles, creativity or simply trying something new. No artistic experience is required—just a willingness to explore and enjoy the process.
