Join Margaret Crook for a relaxed and creative peg loom weaving workshop at Trigonos.
Looking for a thoughtful, handmade gift for someone special this Christmas? Join Margaret Crook at Trigonos for a relaxed and creative peg loom weaving workshop, where you can create something unique using natural Welsh wool and fleece.
Inspired by the mountains, lakes and coastline of Eryri, Margaret combines her love of the natural world with a passion for wool, fleece and traditional textile crafts. This workshop offers the opportunity to learn an ancient and simple form of weaving using natural materials, while enjoying the peaceful surroundings of Trigonos.
Whether you are completely new to weaving or simply looking for a creative day out, you'll have the chance to slow down, learn new skills and create something unique to take home.
What to expect:
The workshop will be relaxed and informal, starting with an introduction to different sheep fleeces and their suitability for different projects. You'll learn about their textures, softness and durability, as well as how fleece is washed and prepared for use.
Then it's time to get creative! Margaret will have a selection of prepared fleece ready for you to explore, choose from and work with as you begin your own weaving project.
Peg loom weaving can be used to create rugs, mats, blankets and other unique textile pieces. It's a wonderful craft to try, and there's no need to worry about perfection. Natural wool has its own character, with different textures, thicknesses and little imperfections that make every handmade piece one of a kind.
Most of all, the day is about enjoying yourself, sharing friendly conversation, learning something new and embracing the simple pleasure of making something by hand.
Come along, enjoy the festive season in the beautiful surroundings of Trigonos, and create a special handmade gift inspired by the natural materials and sheep of Wales and Eryri.
About the Facilitators
Margaret Crook
Coming from a background in catering, from celebration cake decorating in my twenties to plant-based catering later in life, it wasn’t until I moved to Snowdonia in 2022 that I had the opportunity to fully indulge my love of colour and textiles.
I was introduced to my local spinning and weaving guild and went along purely so I could chat to people and learn a little. I was so enthralled by it all that I came home with a spinning wheel! Hence the start of an obsession with ‘all things sheep’.
My main interests are in spinning Art Yarn, which I either knit or use in tapestry landscape weaving. I love the whole process of washing raw fleece, carding and dyeing. It’s a great feeling to be able to say you’ve produced an item from raw fleece to a usable or wearable end product.
