Join Margaret Crook for a relaxed and creative peg loom weaving workshop at Trigonos.
Inspired by the mountains, lakes and coastline of Eryri, Margaret combines her love of the natural world with a passion for wool, fleece and traditional textile crafts. This workshop offers the opportunity to learn an ancient and simple form of weaving using natural materials, while enjoying the peaceful surroundings of Trigonos.
Whether you are completely new to weaving or simply looking for a creative day out, you'll have the chance to slow down, learn new skills and create something unique to take home.
What to expect:
It will be a relaxed, informal workshop, starting with introductions and learning a little about different sheep fleeces and their suitability for different products; what felts well, which are the softest, most hardwearing, and how to wash and prepare fleece depending on the end result you would like.
Then the real fun starts as we set about creating.
I will have all the fleece ready prepared for you in different forms, so you can set about choosing exactly what you would like.
Peg loom weaving is not just about rugs, mats and blankets, but it’s a great place to start. It’s not about perfection either. When using raw, natural materials there are lumps and bumps, different thicknesses and textures, even within the same sheep fleece.
The day is about enjoyment, friendly chatter, laughing and sometimes just being in the moment.
So come and enjoy the natural environment in this wonderful setting at Trigonos, immerse yourself in the natural materials from the sheep of Wales and Eryri, and marvel at how versatile they are.
About the Facilitators
Margaret Crook
Coming from a background in catering, from celebration cake decorating in my twenties to plant-based catering later in life, it wasn’t until I moved to Snowdonia in 2022 that I had the opportunity to fully indulge my love of colour and textiles.
I was introduced to my local spinning and weaving guild and went along purely so I could chat to people and learn a little. I was so enthralled by it all that I came home with a spinning wheel! Hence the start of an obsession with ‘all things sheep’.
My main interests are in spinning Art Yarn, which I either knit or use in tapestry landscape weaving. I love the whole process of washing raw fleece, carding and dyeing. It’s a great feeling to be able to say you’ve produced an item from raw fleece to a usable or wearable end product.
