The reminder to slow down helped me to get lost in the movement.

What is The Alexander Technique?

The Alexander Technique, developed by Frederick Matthias Alexander (1869–1955), is a method focused on improving posture, movement, and body awareness. It is based on the principle that poor posture can contribute to a variety of health issues. By learning to re-align and re-balance the body, individuals can achieve more natural, efficient movement and reduce unnecessary strain.

The Alexander Technique can offer:

  • Relief from posture-related pain

  • Increased body awareness and balance

  • Stress management and reduced tension

  • Enhanced performance for athletes and performers

  • More comfortable pregnancy

  • Faster recovery following injury or surgery

  • Better vocal use and breath control

About the Facilitator

Alison trained with the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique in Kendal, Cumbria, and has been teaching since 2001. She is also a certified Reflexologist with the Association of Reflexologists, a Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance Professionals, and has specialized training in Pregnancy and Childbirth as a Doula and in Eutokia.

Before pursuing her career in teaching the Alexander Technique, Alison worked in the computer industry and initially discovered the benefits of the technique through managing back pain. With a lifelong love of movement, Alison had always dreamed of being a dancer, but digestive pain prevented her from pursuing that path.

Since her mid-twenties, Alison has used her knowledge of the Alexander Technique and Yoga to improve her movement quality and running style. Now, she teaches others how to regain the joy of movement without relying on painkillers or surgery. In 2024, Alison published her first book, The Jigsaw Method – Building Balance into Your Diet with the Power of the Moon.

In addition to her work in movement and health, Alison is passionate about cycling, gardening, and cooking. She runs cookery demonstrations and teaches her Re-balancing Your Diet Programmes and the concept of Lifestyle Nutrition. Alison's natural enthusiasm for cooking also plays a role in her holistic approach to health, especially when it comes to digestive health.

Alison also has a special interest in teaching the Alexander Technique to children both in and out of school, using creative and fun methods to help kids learn and build confidence.
